NIAA Guidance I for the 2021-2022 school year ... cancelled on February 27, 2022
At a special meeting of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association's Board of Control held June 24, 2021, the Board took action to approve a temporary adjustment in academic eligibility for both the fall and spring semesters of the 2021-22 school year. The adjustment allows a student who is ineligible due to a deficiency in the previous semester to become eligible on a probationary basis if they successfully meet the requirements of a three-week grade check. As the 2020-21 school year draws to a close, the NIAA wishes to express sincere gratitude to the school administrators, coaches, officials, game/contest administrators and staff, and students across the state who made it possible to conduct seasons, albeit abbreviated seasons, in NIAA sanctioned sports. Onerous requirements were placed on all of us in the midst of the pandemic. Despite those and the pandemic itself, your incredible efforts allowed seasons to be held. The lives of students were enriched greatly because of your efforts. Thank you!
NIAA Update 23: Adjustment in Spectator Distance from Participants (March 8, 2021)

A great deal of clarification has been needed regarding a variety of topics and subject matters. The NIAA office staff has been communication with many entities recently including, but not limited to, state health authorities, the Governor’s office, NIAA board members, superintendents, other district administrators, school health nurses, sport and spirit commissioners, coaches, parents and student-athletes. NIAA Update No. 17: Recent Board Action

NIAA Update 17 addresses action taken by the Board of Control during its regularly-scheduled winter season meeting, conducted December 8 & 9, 2020. The action included changes to this school year's academic eligibility rules for the second semester, next year's class alignments and the next realignment cycle's timeline.
NIAA Update No. 16: Gubernatorial Emergency Directive 035, Tournaments Prohibited
On November 23, 2020, Governor Sisolak issued Emergency Directive 035 regarding a tightening of requirements in relation to COVID-19 mitigation efforts. Section 19 of that Directive deals specifically with an amendment to Section 11 of Emergency Directive 034 dealing with tournaments. The impact of Section 19 of Directive 035 is to prohibit tournaments. It goes on to define the term tournament, “For the purposes of this provision, a tournament is defined as a series of games or contests that make up a single unit of competition, playoffs, or an invitational event.” Regular season tournaments involving NIAA-member schools are prohibited. NIAA Update No. 14 -- (posted October 22, 2020)

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association's office has received inquiries about academic eligibility for the second semester of the 2020-21 school year. There has been no action by the Board of Control to adjust what has been in place. The attached memo clarifies that a student must meet all academic eligibility requirements to be academically eligible to compete in NIAA-sanctioned sports as those sports begin in January of 2021.

NIAA Update No. 13 -- (posted September 30, 2020)
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association's Board of Control took action in its regularly-scheduled fall season meeting (September 15-16, 2020) to ratify the adjusted master calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. NIAA-member schools were notified of the adjustments to sports seasons on July 23, 2020, through NIAA Update 11, 2020-21 Adjustments to Sports Seasons due to COVID-19 Pandemic. While ratifying the season adjustments, the Board amended the schedule to allow for first contests in each of the sports seasons to occur one day earlier provided minimum practice regulations for both teams and individual team members are met. NIAA Update No. 11 -- (posted July 23, 2020 )
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant challenges faced by NIAA member schools, the NIAA has made the following adjustments to sports seasons for the 2020-21 school year. Specific schedules for leagues and/or regions within the framework below will be created and implemented by the leagues and/or regions in each sport. Several options were reviewed. The NIAA staff, acting under authority granted by the NIAA Board of Control, is issuing these adjustments which are effective immediately. The adjustments were reviewed by and have unanimous support of the NIAA Legislative Commission which is made up of the superintendents of each Nevada school district with an NIAA member high school. The NIAA staff consulted closely with northern and southern league/region presidents of each of the classifications in crafting the adjustments. NIAA Update No. 8 -- (posted June 9, 2020 )
Earlier today (Tuesday,June 9, 2020), Governor Sisolak issued Declaration of Emergency Directive 022 which, among other things, allows county school districts (public schools), charter schools and private schools to open their buildings and facilities with the restrictions for social distancing that are a part of Phase 2. The attached memo outlines the impact of that action on NIAA sanctioned sports and the use of facilities at NIAA-member schools. Please review the memo (linked above) and enclosures carefully prior to implementing plans to re-open athletic fields and facilities. The NIAA will be in summertime-open session effective at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday (June 10).
